What a quarterly consumption briefing should and should not cover
Keep recurring briefings focused on movement, outliers, and open questions—not a repeat of the original assessment.
Once an initial assessment exists, a quarterly briefing should track change rather than rebuild the entire map. The useful pack shows which applications moved materially, which service families grew, and which shared costs still lack a settled rule.
Resist turning the briefing into a configuration review. That work belongs to engineering runbooks. The briefing’s job is commercial clarity: who consumed what, compared with last quarter, and what questions need owners before the next close.
A good session lasts about ninety minutes. Longer meetings usually drift into feature debates that cannot be resolved without deeper fieldwork. Capture those topics as candidates for a focused usage review instead of stretching the briefing.
End with three open questions assigned to named people. Unassigned questions reappear next quarter with the same blanks.
