Five questions before you scope a cloud consumption assessment
Clarify portfolio size, access to billing exports, and decision owners so an assessment finishes with actionable findings.
A consumption assessment fails most often when scope stays vague. Before inviting an external review, settle five practical questions with your internal sponsors.
First: how many applications are in scope, and who owns each one? Second: which cloud accounts and billing periods will you open? Third: do you already have tagging standards, or should the assessment treat tags as incomplete? Fourth: what decision will this work support—budget approval, ownership handoff, or vendor review? Fifth: who will attend the final briefing and act on the recommendations?
Answers to those questions determine duration and fee more reliably than any marketing estimate. They also reveal whether you need a full multi-app assessment, a narrower portfolio usage review, or a short attribution workshop first.
If decision owners cannot join the closing session, pause. Findings that land without an owner tend to sit unread until the next budget cycle.
